Our History
Founded in 2006, Blackrock Geoscience was established to drive sustainable energy solutions and pioneering advancements in geothermal development. With over three decades of expertise, our team has contributed to major geothermal projects across the United States and internationally, supporting sustainable development in communities, tribal nations, and private sectors alike. Our president, Lisa Kuscu, P.G., brings a wealth of experience as a licensed Professional Geologist, guiding Blackrock in securing key partnerships, funding, and regulatory approvals for complex, multi-phase projects.
From our early days to today, Blackrock Geoscience has remained dedicated to blending scientific expertise with a commitment to environmental stewardship and long-term client partnerships. Our work continues to evolve, making geothermal energy accessible for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
Active Projects
Self-Contained Geothermal Business Park - Utah
Geothermal Resource Assessment, Nevada
Blackrock Geoscience is engaged in a very large-scale, multi-phase geothermal resource assessment of a blind system which has included initial desktop exploration, two-meter soil temperature probe surveys, geophysical surveys, and exploratory drilling, all aimed at helping a rural community to discover and develop their geothermal resources and promoting local economic development.
Industrial Low-Temperature Geothermal Direct-Use
Blackrock Geoscience is tasked with assisting an industrial facility to help reduce its carbon footprint, promoting green branding, and making its operation substantially more cost-effective by utilizing low-temperature geothermal resources to offset the use of natural gas. Industrial thermal energy demand comprises about one-fourth of the entire U.S. demand. While the geothermal direct-use market in the United States is relatively small, utilizing geothermal direct-use in industrial applications offers a sustainable, zero-emissions alternative to conventional heat sources mostly supplied by high-grade fossil fuels.
“Our tribe has worked with Blackrock Geoscience since 2013 on geothermal exploration, land acquisition, and economic development projects. Blackrock is a trusted partner by our Tribe and has helped us get substantial funding for exploration, writing many successful project proposals and bringing other valuable resources to the table by being a strong advocate for our Tribe’s economic well-being.”
